Inspired by the hit TV Series “Glee”, this Club was created to provide opportunities for kids of all ages and abilities to find new ways of expression and creativity, but most importantly, to have lots of fun too.  Combining a mix of Singing, Drama and Dance, our resident ‘Will Schuesters’, Linsey and Jill, have created a class that draws out the hidden talent in all of us.  They believe that everyone has the potential to shine, and know that as well as the techniques that are learned, those attending will see huge improvements in confidence and communication also.

The classes themselves incorporate a range of activities including vocal technique, performance skills, character development, improvisation, voice projection, choreography and much more.  The music and songs come from all era’s of the pop charts and there are plenty of anthems from musical theatre thrown in for good measure.  It’s all about a journey for the kids, both through their learning of songs from years gone by to the personal growth that they experience along the way.

You provide the talent, and we’ll provide the stage.

Coaches

The Future Stars team members who run the Glee Club are Linsey Jack and Jill Henry. They have both worked with children and young people  for many years and are committed to providing fun and educational workshops. Linsey is trained in music, singing and drama and has too many qualifications to mention. Jill has an honours degree in drama and theatre arts with a specialism in community drama. Both of the girls are very passionate about the importance of the arts in developing confidence and inter-personal skills in young people, and have been so proud of the improvements they have seen from every single child that has come to their classes.

Classes

We have a range of classes operating throughout the week in Larkhall, Blantyre, Uddingston and Lesmahagow.  Classes are suitable for both boys and girls aged from 4-15 years.  They cost £3.00 per hour class, or you can book a 4 week block, which is only £10.00.  If you are interested in a Glee Class, please contact the office to check availability for spaces.

Performances

The Glee Club will usually run it’s own show twice a year, with all class participants asked to perform.  As well as the annual singing concert the kids have also organised and run their own fashion show and charity night (click here for more details of this).  The group have also been asked to perform at various local events such as christmas and summer fayres, and the Scarecrow Festival in Bothwell.

Events

The Club itself organises a number of events throughout the year for all the kids, including summer and christmas parties and various theatre and concert outings.  The calendar also includes special events such as Family Nights, Talent Shows and Pamper Parties.

Recordings

As well as providing plenty of opportunities for the kids to perform on stage, we are also working closely with some local professionals to enable the Club to record some of it’s more popular tracks.  Our group from Uddingston have had the first opportunity to do this, and they all had an amazing day in the studio.  We are hoping that we can give this group, and our newer classes in Larkhall, Blantyre and Lesmahagow many more chances to get their tracks recorded.  Just click below to hear the efforts of our first trip to the recording studio.

Holiday Camps

While the regular classes take a break during the Summer Holidays, we offer all our classes the chance to take part in intensive creative workshops over the summer.  These combine all the elements of the weekly class but include more 1-2-1 coaching and the creation of a show at the end of the camp.  They can also include visits from creative professionals, outings, and lots of fun games.

Our dance classes and camps are all about fun, fitness and flexibility and give boys and girls the chance to come along and learn some cool moves and new routines, regardless of age or level of experience.  Under the guidance of our Future Stars Coaches, kids are  encouraged to  express themselves in a range of choreographed dances, while adding in their own unique style and varied moves.  Pupils also get the chance to display their talent at our regular Dance Shows and Party Nights.

Coaches

Our dance classes are run by a variety of teachers, from different dance backgrounds and this is reflected in the style of each session.  Our Monday night class in Bothwell is run by Jill Henry and Rebecca Riley, with a focus on fun, modern styles, performance and choreography.  Jill Henry and Sarah Dunne run our Tuesday classes in Larkhall, with a focus on music, rhythm and movement for the younger class, while the older class works on routines with a wide variety of modern styles.  Our Thursday class (which starts on Thursday 3rd May 20102), will be run by Jade Craig, who specialises in a range of styles also.

Classes

At present we are currently running term-time classes in Bothwell, Larkhall and Uddingston.  The details for each are as follows:

The Bothwell ‘Fun’ky Dance classes run every Monday (except for school holidays) at the Bothwell Parish Church Centre. They are suitable for both boys and girls and involve a mixture of street dance, modern and hip-hop, as well as teaching kids all about choreography and performance. They take place between 5.00 & 6.00 p.m. and 6.00 & 7.00 p.m. Classes normally cost £3.00 per session, but we are offering everyone the chance to attend their first class for free. We also have a block rate of £10.00 for 4 weeks.  The classes are suitable for kids aged from 4- 12 years.

The Larkhall Class runs every Tuesday at Happy Feet Nursery.  The first class is called Move n’ Groove and it is aimed at kids aged between 4 and 8 years.  This takes place between 6.30 and 7.30 p.m.  This enjoyable music and movement class is a fun introduction to a wide range of dance styles, but with lots of fitness and strength work thrown in for good measure.  The second class is called Beat Mix Crew and this provides a fusion of upbeat, modern styles in an energetic and motivating class.  This runs from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m. and suits kids aged 8-14 years.  Classes are £3.00 per hour or £10.00 for a 4 week block.  Again, the first classes is free.

After a short break, we’re glad to announce that dance classes will now be returning to Uddingston, with a new look and a new teacher.  We will be running 2 classes with “Fun”ky Fusion from 6.30-7.30 pm and Star Steps from 7.30-8.30 pm. These classes will be for primary-aged kids (boys and girls) and those attending can stay for one or both classes.  The first class will fuse a range of modern styles into new and exciting routines, while the second class will teach you some popular routines that you will see all the modern chart stars perform on MTV.  Our classes will be led by our latest recruit, Jade Craig.  You’ll have loads of fun while enjoying a great workout too.  THIS CLASS BEGINS ON THURSDAY 3RD MAY AND YOU CAN TRY OUT BOTH CLASSES FOR FREE.
